Before we got married, just like any other couple, my husband and I decided to create our wedding registry. Of course and there were certain things that we registered for and never ended up receiving and there were a bunch of things, that I now regret to say, that I let him include in the list, and we did end up receiving. Those bunch of things have now landed up in his office and are used as a display piece as they rightly should. One of the most essential things that most couples register are dishes, and we did too.
Now when you talk about dinnerware — there are two basic kinds that everyone needs to get. The first one is, of course, the everyday dishes that are used in the household — and the second one is the formal dishes that only see the light of the day on special occasions such as a family get together, parties and other festivities. A decade later we still use our Corelle dishes.
Hence, to guide other couples and families, I decided that I should tell you with the top reasons why Corelle is the best choice for all you people — who are looking to live a more organized, minimalist life and how Corelle stands apart from its competitors:
- When you choose a white Corelle like you do not have to worry about them ever having to clash with your table decor and design. When I got married my mother gave a collection of her vintage Corningware and as much as I loved it, I could only take it out for certain occasions and that too had to match my table decor to its designs. As beautiful as your crockery might be if it is going to clash with your table cloth it will really set the decor a little off and all your hard work would be for nought. Having a white Corelle set will make sure that you can match your plates from the reds of Christmas to the pastel hues that you want to see in a mellow spring dinner kind of setting.
- Casual dishes rule! You can dress them up or let them be — they are really no fuss and that’s what really sets them apart. Countless dinners I have had with our casual dinnerware, wherein the main attraction was the food, and yes that really amped up the mood of hospitality and helped us focus on building relationships with our guests, as opposed to obsessing over how the plates looked. Don’t get me wrong I have had my fair share of inheritance of fancy dinnerware — however, over the years I have really begun to value my casual dinnerware much more. If you still want to fancy it up all you have to do is switch the cutlery, add in a napkin with fancy napkin rings and a charger plate, that’s it the transformation is complete.
- Corelle plates are sturdy but light and that makes a real big difference. Let’s say as compared to ceramic plates that I can probably carry 3 at a time of I can carry 8 Corelle plates in a single trip. If you’re wondering why that matters, then let me tell you this — it means lesser trips for me between the dishwasher and the cupboard and when you’re in that rush hour zone it really is a blessing to be able to avoid the unnecessary extra exercise.
- Now that I’ve mentioned how lightweight they are, let me also tell you how compact the Corelle dishes are, the take almost one fifth the size of the space that my fancier dishes would take. This also means that I have been able to hoard on to more dinnerware and spice boxes with all the extra space that has been affronted. Apart from this compactness they are also incredibly sturdy which is so necessary when you talk about a house that has children and on top of that, they have taken the responsibility of the dishwasher and all that goes in it. So with their tiny hands handling the slippery dishes — Corelle has many a time managed to survive all the accidental slippages and bounced back quite literally.
The aforementioned qualities definitely make Corelle stand apart from the competition and for these reasons they have been a staple in my household.
