Natural Search vs. Pay Per Click

Posted on | August 18, 2010 | Comments Off

Should you pay a search engine optimization company to work on increasing your website’s natural ranking or should you buy guaranteed presence by taking on a pay per click arrangement? It’s not always an easy decision to make.

The temptation is to go for the instant option, putting your URL at the top of every relevant search. This is not a bad option, except most surfers know that clicking on a paid ad will not necessarily give them good quality information from a reputable site. They may click out of curiosity or just to compare with other sites. Remember, you pay for every click, whether business comes your way or not.

So what about using an SEO company? For one thing, if you involve them at the design stage, your site will be compliant, well-structured and full of content that relates to your business. That alone should attract return visitors and increase those all-important inward links that convert to a higher ranking. Besides helping you to build a better site, an SEO company will use several strategies to get your site onto page one. However, if you rely heavily on search engines then business may be affected if your ranking drops.

There is no easy way to the top. If you want to cover yourself, a mix of strategies may be the best approach – search engine optmization, pay per click, sponsored links and direct advertising. The trick is to monitor the financial returns each of these is generating.
