Get professional help – Part 3, spotting the SEO scammers

Posted on | August 20, 2010 | Comments Off

Before you pay out good money to get that prized first page search engine ranking, you need to be certain that the SEO agency working for you are using reputable, sustainable methods to put you there. There are still those in the industry who will take advantage of the uninformed, here are just three of the scams they use to do that:

“Guaranteed top ten rankings!”
Pick a few obscure keywords from your web site and run a search on them – you’ll see no shortage of page one rankings. What you really need is a search engine optimisation agency that can help you build the rankings that lead to sustained, qualified traffic to your site.

“First page of Google in two days!”
Anyone can do this – no SEO experience required. Sign up for Google Adwords, choose your keyword, and pay the fees. As long as you keep paying, you’ll stay on page one. Whether you’ll ever see a realistic return on that investment is another matter.

“Submit to thousands of search engines!”
Just ask yourself – how many search engines have I ever heard of? How many of those do I use regularly? Automatic submission to countless search engines is a fairy tale. There aren’t thousands of search engines. There are, however, thousands of SPAM centres and falling for this one is a sure way to have your inbox groaning under the weight of the SPAM you’ll receive as a result.

The key thing to remember though, when choosing a search engine optimisation agency, is that everyone’s needs differ. Make sure you do business with a company that can fulfil your realistic SEO needs rather than promise the earth.
